Skaven rule - Song Of Blades battle

This Sunday sees an scout force of Skaven crossing a hill to find...

The lead up to the battle is:

It was a bad day for H’Tick 4th Claw leader. He’d woken up to discover that his three brothers had survived the poison left for them and his gruel was cold... Slipping on his armour, H’Tick snuck out of the barracks and headed for his watch post thinking vicious thoughts to cheer himself up before taking his anger out on the squad assigned to him. As he crossed the rope bridge in the UnderHive, he noticed the squad was formed up with some-one walking about in front of them doing his job. With a squeal of rage at this possible takeover ploy, H’Tick dashed over the bridge and with claws draw he hissed up to the squad only to be met with a steely glare from the 3rd Claw Leader T’Crat.

As the Musk of Fear slid down H’Ticks tail, T’Crat bared his teeth and growled ‘Assume the position, you poor excuse for a Claw leader’ – ‘NOW’

H’Tick promptly fell on his back with throat bared and awaited his possible fate – could this be his last day in the UnderHive?

As the squad snickered, T’Crat give H’Tick a ritual nip and snarled for him to follow into the office block nearby. Casting a glare at the squad, H’Tick duly followed and awaited his fate.

Once in the office, T’Crat stated that he knew about the poison plot and had warned the brothers but did not tell them who planted it or why and as such H’Ticks life was his now and to start with T’Crat needed a little job doing without the other 3rd Claw Leaders knowing. ‘Given that the Flow is upon us and we need more space to grow the UnderHive, it is your job H’Tick to find me some of that space as soon as possible. You are to sneak out of the Hive, scout over the hill by food post #27 and report back what you find. Do not hunt for treasure or food, just get information and get back here as soon as possible’

Barley managing to keep the Musk of Fear in, H’Tick wondered where the trap was but the idea soon fell from his mind by the mention of treasure and food – no more gruel!

‘To help you, I will send along a couple of my guards and a pet or two – they will keep you safe unless you do something stupid’

And so the scene is set for H’Tick to bravely (well for a Skaven) scout out the area and report back.

Strange things you find in a garden

Following the advice from Big Lee I've been keeping my eyes open for gaming ideas while out and about. Today I had the fun to go to SAP 09 (Sculpture and Plants 09) at Hall Farm Harpswell run in conjunction with the Ropewalk Barton.
Having been twice before (and spent a fortune both times) I was unsure about the return but off we went and found three pieces that will inspire me in the future:
The first is a simple piece of 'rock art' carved out of sandstone by Andrew Oldfield from Derby (£1200)

The grace of the deer and the way the form flows with the grain of the rock is fantastic and reminds me I have to hunt out the cavemen A.S.A.P.

The second was a quirky 'Triffid' style piece of Ironwork. The only problem is I have no idea who made this as the catalogue did not match the final location of the sculptures and I did not track this one down.

The last one is a smaller piece entitled Zephyr made from copper and scrap metal (£250) by Iain Tatum who is the creator of the most fantastic piece in the show.

The face of Zephyr was about the size of a football with 'flames' coming out of the back, wrapping around cogs and gears. I only grabbed this single photo to show - the others I have are close up images that give no sense of beauty or form but in themselves have an attraction to me.

Urban GZG

Finding nothing on TV tonight and trying to avoid the wife (no its not like that as Sue has a strange bug and no voice) I decided to paint up another series of troops for the 15mm game.

This time I decided on a 'city' or urban style and a quick raid in the paint box came up with:
  • Adeptus grey over a white undercoat
  • Astronomican grey dashes
  • Bleached bone splodges
  • Black slashes
  • White spots

Now all I have to do is sort the base - grey rather than green thinks I.

As normal - click for a larger smudgey photo!

15mm Trees complete

Been awhile since I posted but it has been a busy time:

1) Met up with Tanuki from TMP for a wet afternoon gaming (and boy did it rain). He has a super set of Skaven / Tau conversions (got to get him to post a pic or two) that I look forward to fighting and also plays a mean game of Wings Of War.

2) I got the 'tree' set finished

  • Assembled the bits with a hot glue gun
  • Added wood filler to the base so it would not crack if it flexed
  • Painted the edges black
  • Flocked with static grass on heavy PVA
  • Sprayed with scenic cement

Really pleased with my first bits of scenery and they are of an OK size for 25/28mm figures - now just to add the mag basing and off they go into the 'ready for action' pile.

Money wise not such a great time. Before I get paid I've spent the money on the rest of the GZG figures I wanted and joined the beta test for Guncrawl 2!

I'll update the spend and post more on GC2 over the next couple of days as I now have to spend some time printing / reading and testing
